On Saturday 23rd February at 12 o'clock Pippa Goldfinger, the mayor of Frome, will judge and open this inaugural exhibition. She will announce the 12 lucky winners who will all receive a half-day's workshop with a professional artist. These half-day tailored experiences are designed to let the winners (and a friend) develop their skills and broaden their artistic experience.
Each artist works in a different art form, including:
a jeweller; a glass maker; an animator; video installation artist; textile maker; photographer; website designer; stone carver; ceramicist;, portrait painter and a sculptor.
The opening hours for this exhibition have been extended to 5pm, so that young people can come down after school to have a look around; take part in the specially devised Exhibition Quiz and try being a Magnetic Curator (if you want to know what that is, you will need to visit). There is a People's Choice Award, and voting costs just £1 with the chance to win the 'Black Swan Experience' which is £70 worth of vouchers to spend at the shop, café and studios.
This Young Open Competition demonstrates the on-going and major commitment of Black Swan Arts to the development of talent and to the building of strong links with the community, locally, regionally and nationally.
