Studio Shop 1 – Lila Streether
Lila paints botanical subjects and landscapes in watercolour, and sometimes uses the brighter colours of acrylics. Her love of flowers and the countryside shows in her paintings, and living on the edge of the Mendip hills gives her plenty of inspiration. She is drawn to unusual or wild plants, and paints them in her own botanical style.
She is a founder member of the Bath Society of Botanical Artists, and also a member of the South West Society of Botanical Artists. She exhibits at the Cam Valley Art Trail and also the Totterdown Art Trail in Bristol. She achieved a Diploma with the Society of Botanical Artists in 2013, and regularly exhibits in their annual exhibitions at Central Hall, Westminster.
Recent exhibition venues include Stourhead, Wells Cathedral, The Vine in Basingstoke, the Botanical Gardens in Dublin, The Oxmarket in Chichester, and Westminster Central Hall.
She enjoys taking part in charity events, such as the Swans of Wells project when she painted two of the larger-than-life swans which were sponsored by local companies: at the end of the Summer they were auctioned to raise money for local charities. Lila also painted a mining shovel for the Midsomer Norton schools charity event last year, the shovels later being auctioned. Some of her paintings have also found their way to various charity events.
Studio 1 gives Lila the space to exhibit a changing exhibition where paintings can be shown as soon as they are finished/framed. Paintings and cards are for sale along with miscellaneous items. The Studio also gives scope for trying out new ideas, such as her range of small paintings with black backgrounds to give the subject a ‘floating’ effect.
