The
Stranglers join musical project
This morning for the first time ever there
were queues outside Black Swan Arts — and crowds have been
thronging all weekend to see the astonishing exhibition of
new work by Ralph Steadman and automata by Keith Newstead,
which delight and inspire visitors of all ages.
Ralph Steadman
is one of our greatest post-war English cartoonists, whose
savage drawings so perfectly illustrate Hunter S. Thompson’s
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Ralph’s style informed
the film in which Johnny Depp played
Hunter.
On Wednesday 24th June, Black Swan welcomes
some extra special guests keen to see Whoops a Daisy!
Norton
St Philips’s finest, The Stranglers are swinging by on their
way to Glastonbury. Fans of Ralph’s satirical drawings, the
great punk band have agreed to join in an exciting musical
project taking place on July 16th.
Their visit marks the launch
of the Blot Symphony, an artwork of Ralph’s open to musical
interpretation. The Black Swan is holding workshops for local
schools, and a competition for emerging musicians. The Stranglers
have agreed to judge the competition, alongside legendary
American producer Hal Willner, who has produced records for
Lou Reed, U2, Johnny Depp and Marianne Faithfull.
Bands participating
in the Blot Symphony include the school children’s performance,
Nordic Giants, De La Luna and the Gilbert Quick Orchestra.
Tickets
for the event are available for sale from Black Swan from
Monday 28th June at £9.
