At the Black Swan we like to change exhibitions between every 4 and 6 weeks.

Mary Housley
Pop up Studio
Tuesday 30th August- Saturday 10th September

Mary is a Textile Artist who first became interested in needlework, pattern and drawing at Primary School. As part her Teacher Training Course nearly 50 years ago she was fortunate enough to spend the final year of her art course on Creative Embroidery and Design. Later in life she completed a City and Guilds Diploma in this subject. She also joined the Embroiderers' Guild and is now a member of the Frome and District Branch.
Her particular passion is free machine embroidery. She also enjoys felt making and silk paper making. Her inspiration comes mainly from the natural environment.

Sight | Unseen
The Round Tower
Monday 12th September- Saturday 1st October

The core of ‘Sight|Unseen’ is a series of anatomical Rotring pen drawings of native British trees – the leaves and bark as well as cells, tissues and fibres. Other drawings focus on wounded nature. Emma’s work is informed by natural form and pattern – spirals, fissures, branches, waves, plants, landscapes. But it is not about faithfully representing the natural world. It is about nature as it appears to her – inevitably refracted through the psychological, the political and the trivial.

SAW Creative Pathways Bursary- Sarah Hitchens
Pop-up Studio (SAW Venue 74)
Tuesday 13th September- Saturday 8th October

Sarah Hitchens (www.sarahhitchens.com) makes subtly figurative sculptures using hand-rolled slabs of clay to create torn, textured, primitive forms with roughly joined edges sometimes slightly bronzed, glazed or with contrasting white slip patterning. During the event, she will display a new body of work as well as demonstrating her creative process. She also invites visitors to get hands-on, involving make, touch and ‘play’.

Frome Art Society- Art Squared
Round Tower
Saturday 8th October- Sunday 6th November

Frome Art Society’s Autumn exhibition - Art Squared – is being held in the Round Tower, Black Swan Arts in Frome between Saturday 8th October and Sunday 6th November. The exhibition is open Monday to Saturdays 10am and 4.00pm. Admission is free and all are welcome. A novel idea informs this year’s show, with members producing works measuring 30 by 30 cm in a variety of medium: Oil, acrylic, watercolour, mixed media.

This year's main Winter Exhibition will be a fitting end to our 30th Anniversary year- a wonderful celebration of 30 past artists and makers who started their careers at the Black Swan and flew the nest! They'll be returning for this stunning mix of ceramic, jewellery, painting, pottery and printmaking as we look back on 30 years of nurturing creativity.
